The Don’t Be A Bully Project
I am a resident of Virginia (previously lived in both DC and Maryland) and a producer of "change your life entertainment." I am also the current Board president of the DC-based Women in Film & Video. I relocated to DC from Los Angeles in 2019. The Don’t Be A Bully (DBAB) Project shines a light on and changes bully behavior by presenting a 30-minute musical production – “We Don’t Do That Here!” – to middle school students around the country, performed by high school arts students. The musical is paired with 5- to10-minute classroom skits. The musical and skits are designed to reflect current bullying strategies and behavior, then show, real-time, how the behavior can effectively be changed, creating “a culture of interveners.” The production empowers the targets, turns the onlookers into “interveners,” and redirects the culprits, that is, the person(s) who are engaging in the bully behavior. The DBAB Project also creates awareness for teachers and administrators who may be unaware of situations going on right in front of them. On October 24th, we have the opportunity to present this powerful production to arts school educators from around the country, as part of the Arts School Network Conference. We are partnering with Duke Ellington School of the Arts' students who will perform in the production. We will present the show as part of a comprehensive workshop at The Kennedy Center. Our goal is to roll this production out to schools nationwide, starting with the nation's capital! dbabproject.com
